“We’re kicking off a dynamic 2024, bringing with us many changes and new expectations. This is forcing us to rethink the world of work,” Bellora said.
The expert highlighted five current trends in the workplace:
- Dehumanization in workplace relationships, which leads to a lack of commitment.
- A high level of stress, which leads to low productivity and represents a significant cost for companies.
In the wake of the pandemic, we’re paying close attention to everything related to profitability. This has led to cost-cutting measures. In our quest for maximum productivity, we’re neglecting to address or redesign roles in which we expect nearly superhuman performance.
- There is a third trend related to the integration of artificial intelligence into all aspects of work. Many jobs are beginning to be automated.
- Bellora noted that there is a gradual loss of credibility among the traditional institutions that used to set the public agenda: politicians, the media, and the government. “The loss of credibility is unprecedented. Citizens, lacking institutions they can look to for guidance, are beginning to expect companies to get involved in public issues.”
- Finally, there are significant changes in the life trajectories of the younger generations.
Growing up, finding a job, getting married, having children, buying a house, getting promoted at work, retiring, saving for retirement. We’re starting to question all of this because of the extreme volatility of the world we live in. Today, we have virtually no certainty about the long term. We face a high degree of uncertainty, which is why our expectations for our life paths are falling.
