Initial Teacher Education: Keys to Change

October 4, 2021
“Today we are witnessing the failure of the current model of initial teacher education in the face of the challenges posed by the first two decades of the 21st century,” state Dr. Denise Vaillant and Dr. Carlos Marcelo, authors of the article “Initial Teacher Education: The Current Model and Keys to Change.”

Both are authors of the article“Initial Teacher Education: The Current Model and Keys to Change,in which they state that “improving the current pedagogical model no longer seems sufficient; rather, a profound transformation is necessary.”

For this reason, they are presenting this paper, which details innovative trends in initial teacher education. In particular, it highlights experiences that “teach students to think, understand, feel, learn, explore, solve problems, respect others, work collaboratively, and live together in a diverse society.”

In turn, Vaillant and Marcelo suggest some ways to transform the pedagogical foundation of initial teacher education, with the aim of “offering ideas that can inspire innovation” in Ibero-American institutions.

“Initial Teacher Education: The Current Model and Keys to Change” is published in Volume 19, Issue 4 of the Ibero-American Journal on Quality, Effectiveness, and Change in Education (REICE), published by the Autonomous University of Madrid.
