Universidad ORT Uruguay, in partnership with IBM, Securitas, and BROU, launched "Invasion of the Scamaliens," a free educational game designed to help users learn how to identify and prevent online scams.

How to Spot Online Scams

This game, which is now available on Google Play and the App Store, is part of a growing effort to combat the global rise in cyberattacks, which target people of all ages.

The Estafaliens are attacking us

In *Invasion of the Estafaliens*, players take on the role of special agents from the Virtual Agency for the Identification of Terrestrial Alien Vulnerabilities: A.V.I.V.A.T.E.

Their mission is to protect Earth from a legion of aliens skilled in fraud and deception who disguise themselves as humans to carry out the most despicable scams.

Through four humor-filled levels in story mode, players complete mini-games that teach them how to spot and avoid online scams.

In addition, those who prove themselves will have the chance to take on the A.V.I.V.A.T.E. Challenge, a survival level featuring more than 200 cases based on real-life examples.

A joint effort to improve safety

Universidad ORT Uruguay, IBM, Securitas, and BROU have joined forces on this project with a clear goal: to educate and protect the community in the face of the growing number of cyberattacks.

"Security is not a destination, but a journey. And to choose which direction to take on this journey, it is essential to be well-informed," said Ethel Kornecki, assistant to the Academic Coordinator of Cybersecurity at ORT's School of Engineering.

According to a report by Check Point Research, global cyberattacks rose by 38% in 2022, with a significant increase in the healthcare and education sectors due to the rise of remote work and online learning.

In addition, according to CrowdStrike, cloud breaches increased by 75% in 2023, highlighting the sophistication of attackers who use legitimate tools to evade detection.

World-renowned companies, such as T-Mobile—which suffered a data breach affecting 37 million customers in January 2023—and 23andMe, where data from up to 20 million users was compromised, underscore the importance of being prepared and well-informed to address these threats.

Education as a key tool

This game is a key educational tool designed to empower users with the knowledge they need to protect themselves in the digital world.

The collaboration between these four organizations reflects a strong commitment to digital security and quality education for Uruguayans.

Advances in cybersecurity and online education are crucial to keeping us safe in today’s digital world.

We invite everyone to download *Invasion of the Estafaliens* and join this educational mission to improve our digital security and protect our personal and financial information.
