Ganader IA: Revolutionizing Livestock Farming with Innovative Technology

December 27, 2023
In its ongoing search for technological solutions, Ganader IA—a startup incubated at ORT’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE)—has introduced a system that uses drones equipped with image capture and data processing technology to collect key information about livestock in agricultural settings.

This allows livestock producers to access accurate, up-to-date data on their animals' weight via a mobile app.

The proposal not only helps producers make informed decisions, but also significantly reduces the associated costs and labor requirements for weighing cows. This approach translates into greater profitability for producers, leading to improved efficiency in livestock production.

The team of entrepreneurs, consisting of Ramiro Sosa and Manuel Navarrete, students of Electronic Engineering, along with Luis Porras, a student of Telecommunications Engineering at the School of Engineering, transformed this idea into a solid project during dynamic entrepreneurship classes at ORT. The project stood out enough to reach the finals of the Santander X Global Award 2023 competition, an achievement that represents recognition of its global impact.

We spoke with Ramiro Sosa, one of the founders:

What was the process like for the Santander X Global Award 2023 competition, and what does it mean to have reached this stage with your startup?

The journey to the Santander X Uruguay final has been truly enriching, marked by a meticulous selection process that, thanks to our previous experience and with the support of the CIE, allowed us to showcase our best work. This achievement opens the doors to the Santander X Global category, where only the most outstanding startups worldwide compete. Representing Uruguay and the CIE on this stage fills us with pride, giving us the opportunity to show the world the positive impact we can make.

How important was the CIE's support during the development of your platform?

That support has been a cornerstone throughout this year. The validation of our business idea was strengthened thanks to the dedicated support of Ximena Scasso, coordinator of the CIE’s pre-incubator, whose experience and guidance have been essential and extremely helpful. Additionally, the mentoring sessions and opportunities to present our pitch to juries at the CIE have allowed us to refine and perfect our proposal, better preparing us to face future challenges and opportunities, such as the Santander X events.

What are Ganader IA's plans for the future?

Our next goal is to bring our platform to market, collaborating with producers in Uruguay before making the strategic leap to the region, covering both Argentina and Paraguay. We are committed to innovation in livestock management and are determined to develop new features that will transform how livestock is managed. We will also explore the application of new technologies to other livestock species, such as sheep, thereby consolidating a unique and efficient platform forlivestock management.

Ganader IA positions itself as a leader in the successful convergence of technology and livestock farming, offering a comprehensive solution for efficient livestock management and driving significant change in the industry.
