This competition offers a unique opportunity for architecture students at Universidad ORT Uruguay, inviting them to explore the boundaries of creativity and sustainability in construction through the use of steel.

With the support of the company Gerdau, which has extensive experience in steel production, and in collaboration with the Mides, the main objective of this edition of the competition is to challenge students to develop a prototype for modular and scalable housing that serves as an innovative, sustainable, and inclusive solution.

A Cutting-Edge Challenge: Designing Sustainable and Inclusive Housing for People with Mobility Impairments

The challenge for this edition is to develop a preliminary design for a residence for people with limited mobility, which is planned to be built at the Artigas Center—owned by Mides—and will be used to assist individuals in the final stages of their social reintegration.

The design of this home must not only take into account the functional needs of people with limited mobility, but also address issues of sustainability and energy efficiency.
