Gonzalo Galán: “Without practice, there is no virtue”

June 5, 2024
Gonzalo Galán, a professor at the University of Seville, highlighted the adaptability, resourcefulness, and strong technical skills of Uruguayan professionals. During his workshop with industrial design students, he emphasized the importance of display furniture for products such as wine and olive oil, which is essential for their success in the international market.
Gonzalo Galan at the School of Design

The School of Design welcomed Spanish professional Gonzalo Galán Jurado, a technical engineer in industrial design who holds a master’s degree in transportation design from Cardenal Herrera CEU University in Valencia, Spain. He is currently a member of the Department of Design Engineering at the Higher Polytechnic School of the University of Seville (Spain).

“The professionals I’m meeting have the skills to thrive in the international market, Galán said. He described several qualities he observed in them during his stay in Uruguay:

  • Adaptation to available resources
  • They value resources
  • They identify what is relevant,
  • They know what works and what doesn't.
  • Technical preparation: “Without a doubt, without technical preparation, no work of any kind can be carried out.”

One of the strengths he noted was that students put the knowledge they acquire in theory into practice. “Without practice, there is no virtue,” he said.

Hydrogen as an energy source

In addition, he gave a lecture titled “Hydrogen as an Energy Source: A Perspective from Industrial Design and Production.” The lecture examined hydrogen as an alternative energy source and its use in propulsion systems, exploring its potential implementation from the perspective of industrial design.

Visit as part of the Erasmus+ program

Gonzalo Galán's visit took place as part of an international academic mobility project under the Erasmus+ Program, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design at Universidad ORT Uruguay.

Erasmus+ is the European Union program dedicated to promoting and supporting education, training, youth, and sports. The International Academic Mobility action line promotes, through bilateral projects, academic mobility activities between higher education institutions in European countries and the rest of the world, for students as well as academic and administrative staff.
