GPSGAY is the best Uruguayan app

The GPSGAY app, the new project by Magdalena Rodríguez and Rosario Monteverde, graduates of Universidad ORT Uruguay in Universidad ORT Uruguay, was the winner of the 2014 AppCircusMontevideo competition.

Ten apps competed in the event's final, held on November 25; each had five minutes to present itself and impress the judges with its innovations.

Magdalena Rodríguez, who holds a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, was tasked with presenting GPSGAY to the jury and the audience.

During his five-minute presentation, he explained that the app includes not only chats and events, but also news and movies tailored to the target audience. He also noted that the target audience, which is very attractive from a consumer perspective, is currently underserved.

He also noted that the gay community “spends 40% more than the average person.”

As the winning app, you will travel to Spain to represent Uruguay at the Mobile Premiere Awards, the global app competition to be held in Barcelona in March 2015.

Second place in the competition went to the AlToque app, a platform incubated by the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) and created by Kevin Natanzon and Carlos Vega, graduates of the Systems Engineering program.

The jury consisted of Marcelo Lanfranconi de Paganza (winner of AppCircusMontevideo 2013), Ana Pais, a technology journalist at El Observador, and Leonardo Kammermann, from Antel’s innovation department.
