September 3, 2018

Víctor Vaccaro and Magdalena Ripoll, graduates of the Biotechnology Engineering program, were awarded two mobility grants by the Directorate for the Development of Science and Knowledge of the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC).

Mr. Vaccaro, who is pursuing his master’s degree through the PEDECIBA program on the Degradation of Antibiotics in Milk, will participate, through a MEC scholarship, in the Theoretical/Practical Course on Enzyme Biotechnology in the Food Industry and in the First Congress on Enzymes in Food (ENZAL 2019), which will take place in Santiago, Chile, from January 8 to 11, 2019.

Ms. Ripoll, for her part, is writing her thesis, “The Upcycling of Crude Glycerol Generated as Industrial Waste into High-Value-Added Products,” as part of the PEDECIBA program, and will use the grant to attend the Third Latin American Symposium on Biocatalysis and Biotransformations, which will take place in San Luis, Argentina, from November 27 to 30, 2018.

Both graduates are members of the Protein Technology Research Group led by Dr. Lorena Betancor, a research professor of biotechnology in the School of Engineering.
