Diego Cazabán, a professor in the Biotechnology Department of the School of Engineering and a graduate of the Bachelor's Degree in Biotechnology, received the Santander Universities Scholarship.
Through this scholarship, he completed a research internship in July and August 2015 at the Institute of Catalysis and Petrochemistry of the Spanish National Research Council at the Autonomous University of Madrid.
Mr. Cazabán will investigate the synthesis of fatty acid esters using immobilized lipases as part of his master's thesis.
This thesis is co-supervised by Dr. Lorena Betancor, a faculty member and researcher in biotechnology, and Dr. Lorena Wilson, director of the Graduate Program at the School of Biochemical Engineering at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso, Chile.
