The firm Guerra Klaus Garín Architekten, co-founded by architect Alejandro Garín, a graduate of the architecture program at Universidad ORT Uruguay, won the design competition for the construction of the Botnar Center for Child Health building, which will be located in Basel, Switzerland.
The Canton of Basel issued a call for proposals for the construction, operation, and maintenance of a sustainable, low-carbon research building. On that occasion, the jury unanimously selected the R2-D2 project, co-developed by Garín, from among 48 entries.
The proposal consists of a sustainable building made up of segments that can be dismantled for reuse.
This is the second time the firm has been selected in an international competition. The first was a concert hall for the city of Nuremberg (Germany).
The Botnar Foundation is a philanthropic organization that advocates for the use of artificial intelligence and digital technologies to improve the health and well-being of children and young people in growing urban environments. It offers a range of funding opportunities to support research and innovative projects that align with its strategic focus.
