ORT graduates gather in Madrid to strengthen international ties

On May 23, six graduates of Universidad ORT Uruguay live in Madrid met with Eduardo Hipogrosso, Vice President for Institutional Management and Development, during his visit to Spain.

Sabrina Bianchi, director of the ORT Central Graduate Services Office, noted that the main objective of the visit was “to connect these communities with one another and with students and graduates in Uruguay, as they share more than just a university: they share the professional values associated with the ORT ethos.” 

He also added that the aim was “to invite them to play an active role in a strong community of support and collaboration, where members can share ideas, opportunities, and valuable resources with one another, and inspire students and graduates across the country with their experiences.”

The meeting gave attendees the opportunity to share experiences and discuss future collaborations that will benefit both the graduates and the university.

Achievements and Challenges

Hipogrosso emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong network of alumni and praised the contributions they can make to ORT’s institutional development.

“The meeting was very open and featured a wide range of discussions, during which I was able to see the success they are achieving as a result of the training they received at ORT and their personal interests—often driven by an entrepreneurial spirit—which undoubtedly represent us in the best possible way,” said the vice-chancellor.

The graduates shared their career paths at various companies, institutions, and startups in Spain. Each graduate gave a brief presentation on their professional and academic journey, highlighting how their education at ORT has helped them establish themselves in Spain.

“They also expressed their willingness to stay connected to ORT from afar,” added Hipogrosso.

Among those in attendance were Guillermo Bentancur, who holds a bachelor’s degree in International Studies; Silvina Hipogrosso, who holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design; Mercedes Thul, who holds a bachelor’s degree in International Studies; Alexandra Cooper, an architect; Victoria Canavesi, who holds a bachelor’s degree in Advertising and Communication; and Pilar Cubría, a systems analyst.

The diversity of their experiences enriched the discussion and opened up new opportunities for collaboration.

According to Bianchi, “these opportunities for face-to-face interaction offer a new chance to further strengthen the bond between them, fostering more and better collaborative initiatives—including with the university—both during their international experience and beyond, through new formats and initiatives designed to add value to their careers and to society.”

During the meeting, participants discussed potential exchanges and joint projects that could be implemented in the future to enrich ORT’s international academic community.

The graduates volunteered to participate in online academic activities, such as talks and testimonials, and even to visit Universidad ORT Uruguay give talks when they return to the country.

“As part of the university’s institutional development, the alumni community is the largest and fastest-growing segment; therefore, this closer connection allows us to better address their academic and professional needs to foster their growth opportunities in the broadest sense, always connecting them with their university, as well as with companies, institutions, universities, and professionals whose interests align with theirs,” explained the director of ORT’s Central Alumni Service.

The university reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining an active and meaningful connection with its alumni abroad.

"ORT graduates are our best ambassadors. We are here to support them in their academic and professional journeys, and to foster networking within the alumni community," Hipogrosso emphasized.
