Graduates Win Awards in the "Ideas for Entrepreneurship" Contest

November 26, 2008
José Luis Elizalde, a graduate of the Bachelor’s Program in Graphic Design, won an award in the “Ideas for Entrepreneurship” competition for his project “CIP—Virtual Cinema,” and Sebastián Haro, a graduate of the Bachelor’s Program in Journalism and Communication, for his project “ContenidoWeb.”

The “Virtual Cinema” project, presented by Mr. Elizalde alongside Juan Nicolón, consists of an online-only cinema. The website (www.cip.com.uy) will feature short films, just as a real movie theater does. It is aimed at students, enthusiasts, and anyone who wishes to showcase their work.

ContenidoWeb is a startup that provides a specialized service for writing and updating website content. The service is aimed at small and medium-sized businesses in general; at web design and development companies, which typically do not have staff trained in writing and communication; and at firms that maintain websites requiring frequent updates and handling a significant volume of information. This project joined the Center for Technological Entrepreneurship at the Faculty of Engineering in August of this year to undergo pre-incubation.

Ideas para Emprender was organized by the Emprender Program, whose main objective is to promote a high-value-added entrepreneurial culture that contributes to value creation and the sustained growth of the Uruguayan economy. This program is the result of a joint initiative between the Multilateral Investment Fund of the Inter-American Development Bank, LATU, the National Development Corporation, the Andean Development Corporation, and Prosperitas Capital Partners.

The program’s collaborating institutions are: DESEM Young Entrepreneurs, ENDEAVOR, Uruguay de las Ideas, INGENIO Incubator, Pando Technology Hub (Fundaquim), the Faculty of Chemistry and the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences at the University of the Republic,  the Julio Ricaldoni Foundation of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of the Republic, Universidad ORT Uruguay, the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (Cuti), the ZONAMERICA Foundation, and Empretec.
