#HackCovid19: Together Against the Coronavirus

April 2, 2020
The Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) at Universidad ORT Uruguay, in partnership with the Da Vinci Labs business incubator of the Da Vinci Foundation, launched #HackCovid19 in our country—an international call for proposals to find solutions to the many problems caused by the coronavirus in the community.

Today, other countries are joining the initiative, including Costa Rica, through the University Agency for Entrepreneurship Management at the University of Costa Rica, and Córdoba, Argentina, through the FIDE Incubator (City of Córdoba, National University of Córdoba, and Córdoba Regional Technological University) and the Business Incubator at the National University of Córdoba.

HackCovid19 is a 100% online, intensive team-based co-creation process. It consists of three stages: Propose, Hack, and Share.

In the first phase, "Propose," an open call is issued for proposals addressing issues in the areas of access to and management of public information, ethics and community relations, logistics, hardware, biotechnology, and early warning systems.

In the second phase, "Hack," teams are formed to work intensively online on solving problems, with guidance from the organizers' mentors.

In the final stage, "Share," the solutions developed are presented via a public and open video conference, with the aim of exchanging ideas with the community.

This initiative, which emerged as part of the LISTO Project (Latin American and European Cooperation on Innovation and Entrepreneurship), has by the National Development Agency (ANDE), IBM, AEternity Blockchain (æternity), El País, and IDB LAB.
