Design is a creative discipline that proposes solutions to overcome current challenges, provide appropriate responses (aesthetically, ethically, and technically) to specific situations, and anticipate potential needs that may arise from changing lifestyles. In all its fields, design is clear, critical, and conscious thinking—the result of research whose conclusions must lead to improvement, progress, and evolution, which should be reflected in the evolution of humanity.

In the specific case of graphic design, we are referring to the phenomenon of communication. We are entering the realm of visual communication, the importance of the image, and the signs and symbols embedded in a society at a given moment—semiotics and semantics. Today, the graphic design graduate acts as a visual linguist, using the image as a channel of communication, where visual weight, shapes, colors, and the arrangement of elements in a given composition convey meaning, telling us a story through visual metaphors. We are talking about visual language.

The growing importance of the graphic designer’s role in recent years is truly impressive, and it will continue to grow because we’re talking about a professional who offers concrete, understandable, and easily accessible visual solutions. Without a doubt, I would choose to be a graphic designer again today, and I believe that studying at Universidad ORT Uruguay allows Universidad ORT Uruguay to develop your skills alongside leading professionals in the field of design.
