In 2022, the School of Communication and Design will open a new creative space, designed as a center to foster teaching, exchange, and the development of creativity and innovation.
The academic secretary of the School of Design, DI Oscar Aguirre, announced that it will serve as a hub for connection, exchange, and collaborative work among different areas of design and communication, with the ultimate goal of fostering innovation through the methodological approach of design thinking.
The need for a new space stems from the growing demand for opportunities to explore and experiment with design practices, as well as the need for spaces that can accommodate technological advancements—places where students and faculty can work on projects whose only limit is creativity.
The new spaces will be suitable for activities, workshops, exhibitions, and practical exercises designed to help students put what they have learned into practice.
“There will be animmersive technologies lab ‘to tackle new challenges such as the world of metaverses, covering programming, design, and the necessary hardware,’” Aguirre said, as well as a hybrid technologies lab for the development of smart products, integrating electronics, programming, apps, and 3D printing.
The new space will feature a permanent exhibition hall that will be available to students, teachers, professionals, artists, designers, and creators—both local and international.
The sound facilities will be relocated to this new building, with an entire floor dedicated to three recording studios and specialized rooms for developing high-quality sound projects.
In addition to the above, once the new building is completed, the following facilities will be located there:
- photography center,
- video production center,
- Fashion Design Studio,
- Industrial Design Lab,
- 3D printing and digital center,
- printing workshops (both graphic and fashion),
- knitting workshops,
- technology cluster,
- hybrid classrooms,
- electronic music venues,
- spaces dedicated to the design of smart applications and products.
“All of this will be put to use in various fields, including smart products, video games, animation, digital manufacturing, 3D printing, fashion design, printing and textiles, art and technology, apps, web development, e-commerce, and graphic and digital communication,” said the academic secretary.
This new building will be located on Uruguay Avenue, near the School of Communication.
