Invitation to “International Day of Girls in ICT”

With the aim of encouraging girls and young women to pursue careers in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), “International Girls in ICT Day” offers young women an opportunity to find inspiration and gain firsthand insight by learning from the experiences of women working in ICT and visiting companies in the sector, thereby challenging the current male-dominated reality of the industry.

"Girls in ICT Day" 2014, organized at the initiative of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), will be held on April 24.

The event aims to highlight the exciting and promising opportunities offered by the sector. A variety of activities will be held throughout the day, featuring more than 300 female students in grades 9 through 12 from public and private high schools.

The event is organized by Antel, Plan Ceibal, the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology, Greentizen, the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), LATU/Espacio Ciencia, the Ministry of Industry, Energy, and Mining (MIEM)/National Directorate of Telecommunications and Audiovisual Communication Services, and Universidad ORT Uruguay.

Morning activities

9:30–9:45 a. m. Opening remarks: Carolina Cosse, President of Antel.

9:45–10:30 a.m. Panel: “Experiences of Women Working in ICT.”

Participants: Silvia Nane (Makeitwork); Claudia Fernández (Manentia); Carolina Bañales (AdviseMeTech); Victoria Alonsoperez (IEETECH).

Location: LATU Auditorium.

10:45–11:15 Visits to companies in the sector: located in the Technology and Events Park/LATU (MIEM-Dinatel’s Content and Applications Development Center and Digital TV Laboratory, Plan Ceibal, GeneXus Consulting, LATU/Furniture and Doors & Windows Laboratory, and the IEEE experience in Uruguay at Espacio Ciencia).

11:15–11:30 – Closing of activities.
