Marcelo Jabif began studying to become a certified public accountant at Universidad ORT Uruguay 2005. In 2006, he entered the workforce, performing administrative tasks. In 2007, after earning his intermediate degree, he began working at Deloitte.
- Why did you decide to study at Universidad ORT Uruguay?
- I chose ORT because I really liked the academic program and the facilities. I also heard good things about it from family and friends.
- How did you come up with the idea of pursuing this degree? - To be honest, I always thought I wanted to be a systems engineer, but I realized I was looking for something more focused on the social sciences and business. In the end, I decided to study public accounting.
- How did the race go for you?
- I believe that the program provided me with the necessary technical knowledge and helped me develop critical thinking skills, giving me the tools to achieve results in a wide variety of fields.
- What do you think of the university's academic system?
- I’d highlight the high overall academic standards and professors who strive to push students out of their comfort zone. The assessment system at the School of Management and Social Sciences can be very time-consuming and demanding at times, but it also has its fun side in that it forces you to spend a lot of time with your classmates, which helps build strong relationships.
- What do you remember about the race?
- The hours spent in study sessions with my classmates—which sometimes lasted all night—to prepare the assignments required by the university each semester.
- When did you start working?
- I started working at the beginning of my third semester at a small American company that had recently set up its headquarters in Uruguay. I began by handling administrative tasks, and as the company grew, I came to be in charge of production planning as well as the company’s imports and exports.
- Have you changed jobs?
- At the end of my second year of college, I earned my associate’s degree and decided to look for a job that was directly related to my field of study; specifically, I was interested in finance. For this reason, I began applying to major consulting firms and quickly received several responses. Based on the roles each firm offered me, I ultimately chose Deloitte because it was the best fit for what I wanted. Today, I work at Deloitte as a Senior Consultant in the Strategy and Operations practice. I work on various initiatives, such as developing investment projects and advising companies and financial institutions.
- Do you think ORT prepared you for the job market?
- I think it has given me a solid foundation for taking my first steps in this area.
- What are your plans for the future?
- I'm still not sure how I want to advance my career, but I'm considering pursuing an MBA abroad. In the medium to long term, I'd like to start my own business.
