Nicolás Reyes Arrieta, 23, CEO of NRA Importaciones, shares his experience as a student at Foreign Trade Analyst, at Universidad ORT Uruguay.
-In what year did you choose to study at Universidad ORT Uruguay, and why?
-I chose to study at ORT University in 2009. I decided to attend the university because I felt it offered the most rigorous program and had the best reputation.
-What did you value most about college?
-There were two aspects I took into serious consideration: the professional and the personal. Professionally speaking, I believe the university does an excellent job of preparing its students to enter the job market and succeed right away. And on a personal level, I can say that I made some close friends and met many future colleagues.
-How did you come up with the idea of pursuing a degree in International Trade Analysis?
-At that point, I had just begun to learn about the world of logistics and imports, and it immediately appealed to me: I wanted to delve deeper into the subject.
-How did the race go for you?
-I found the program to be excellent: in terms of technical knowledge, the ability to think creatively about solutions to unconventional problems, and it has provided me with many professional contacts to this day.
-What do you remember about your college days?
-I remember recess, the stress of meeting deadlines for assignments, and getting frustrated because you couldn't finish in time! And in my class, the camaraderie among everyone when it came to studying, sharing notes, and so on.
-What would you highlight about the program?
-High academic standards and strong connections.
-When did you start working?
-In 2008, I worked as a coordinator at a travel agency until the end of the year; after that, my studies made it impossible for me to travel, so I decided to take a job as an administrative assistant at an import company until I graduated.
-How did your degree prepare you for the job market?
-It prepared me exceptionally well; just three months after graduating, I was hired at Zonamérica, and a year later, it enabled me to start my own business
-What are your plans for the future?
-I would very much like to pursue a master’s degree in international trade, or an MBA if possible, at a prestigious university. Universidad ORT Uruguay highly regarded by U.S. universities, and scholarships are not out of reach for its students. Professionally, I would also like to continue expanding beyond the Uruguayan market.
