Technology in Initial Teacher Education

February 4, 2019
How is teaching changing as a result of the introduction of technology in the classroom?

How do teacher education students use the computers provided by the Ceibal Plan? Do they use the mobile devices available to them to prepare for their teaching careers? What significance do they attribute to the incorporation of these devices into teaching? How is pedagogy changing as a result of the introduction of technology in the classroom?

These were some of the questions raised by Dr. Claudia Cabrera Borges, Dr. Eduardo Rodríguez Zidán, and Dr. Juan Pablo Zorrilla Salgador in their article“Integration of Mobile Devices into Initial Training and Educational Practices for Teacher Education Students in Uruguay.”

This study analyzed the characteristics of the process of integrating digital technology into initial teacher education, as well as into the practicums of student teachers.

The article appears in issue 14 of the Latin American Journal of Comparative Education (covering November 2018–May 2019) and presents the main findings of the project “Ubiquitous Learning: Mobile Devices and Learning Ecologies in the Initial Training of Secondary School Teachers in Uruguay.”
