On November 30, 2018, as part of the First Ibero-American Conference on Sustainable Development, the Deloitte Chair in Management and Accounting for Sustainable Development was launched. The event took place at the Pocitos Campus of Universidad ORT Uruguay.
The purpose of the chair is to contribute to a series of activities aimed at strengthening the academic capabilities of ORT’s School of Management and Social Sciences in the area of sustainable development, developing research materials in this academic field, and raising public awareness of an issue of fundamental importance that remains relatively little known in the country.
These initiatives will be carried out primarily through the faculty’s Graduate School, but also through other programs that contribute to achieving the university’s objectives.
The presentation was given by Mariella de Aurrecoechea, CPA, a partner at Deloitte Uruguay, and Alejandro Vanrell, CPA, the Sustainability & Corporate Responsibility Manager at Deloitte Uruguay.
Following Deloitte’s presentation of the chair, Dr. Nicolás Gambetta, academic coordinator of the faculty’s graduate programs in accounting and taxation and head of the chair, stated: “The Chair in Management and Accounting for Sustainable Development – Deloitte will serve as a platform that will allow us to create spaces for debate integrating the social, environmental, and economic aspects of sustainability and to promote the concept of sustainable development.”
“The managers and leaders of the future must be equipped to address the social and environmental pressures posed by the complex world in which we live,” said Gambetta, adding, “This will not be possible unless they are able to incorporate the concept of sustainable development into both the internal and external aspects of their organizations. In this course, we will be prepared to help them navigate that path.”
