Launch of the Professional Journalism Training Program

March 20, 2012
On March 21, 2012, the Faculty of Communication and Design hosted the launch of the Professional Journalism Training Program, which will begin on April 23.

This nine-month journalism program for non-journalists is organized by the faculty’s Journalism Academic Coordination Office, in collaboration with Argentina’s Grupo Clarín.

The presentation was given by Miguel Wiñazki, Editorial Secretary of the Clarín newspaper; journalist Leonardo Haberkorn, the faculty’s Academic Coordinator of Journalism; and journalist Daniel Mazzone, the faculty’s Professor of Digital Journalism.

The program is designed for professionals specializing in fields such as medicine, science, law, sociology, economics, and engineering, among others, who are interested in developing their journalistic writing skills.

Its objectives are:

- To provide participants with an understanding of the philosophy and practice of journalism, equipping them to apply research methods and reporting techniques.

- To foster reflection and critical thinking about reality to contribute to the creative development of their profession.

- To ensure that, through practical assignments and coverage of real events, participants understand and master these techniques.

- To enable them to achieve a level of excellence, especially in content writing.

- To master the communication platforms of new technologies.

Through theoretical and practical classes delivered in a workshop format in a newsroom that emulates that of a media outlet, equipped with the appropriate technology for journalistic production, instructors teach their courses from the outset with a professional approach that integrates intensive journalistic practice.

The program aims to foster creativity while providing participants with training in the selection, writing, titling, and presentation of materials of public interest, developing skills they can integrate into their own professional work.

The curriculum includes the following courses: Understanding the Media, Journalistic Writing, Thinking Like a Journalist, Online Communication Management , Journalistic Genres , and Professional Journalistic Production Project. It culminates in a Final Presentation, which consists of a personal blog with journalistic content that integrates the knowledge acquired throughout the program.

The faculty consists of journalism professors from the school who are leading figures in the national journalism profession and journalists from the Clarín newspaper. Participants may choose to complete an internship of up to one week at the Clarín newspaper, shadowing a journalist in the newsroom.

For years, Grupo Clarín has offered a Master’s in Journalism in partnership with the University of San Andrés (Argentina).

Mr. Wiñazki holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Morón (Argentina) and is a Professor of Philosophy at that university. He is a Professional Journalism Fellow and a Knight-Wallace Fellow at the University of Michigan ( United States). He is the author of several books, including “La Locura de los Argentinos,” “La Noticia Deseada: Leyendas y Fantasmas de la Opinión Pública,” and “El Adolfo.”
