In a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Helena Garbarino, academic coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in Systems and the Master’s Degree in Information Systems Management, the guest speakers exchanged views on the impact of digital transformation within organizations, such as the potential to create new business models, new services and products, or reach new markets.
Enrique Herrera, Human Resources Manager at Grupo Ta-Ta, reflected: "Technology permeates the organization. All leaders must develop digital competencies to be able to lead teams."
For his part, Leonardo Loureiro, CEO of Quanam USA and president of Cuti (Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology), stated:
Today, groups are multicultural. We need everyone's knowledge to complement one another.
Ignacio Valle Dubé, CEO of Handy, an associate professor in the Department of Software Engineering at the School of Engineering and a supervisor for the school’s senior capstone projects, emphasized that: “Leaders don’t necessarily need to know how to use every technology, but they do need to be familiar with them, as this is part of the company’s strategy.”
Meanwhile, the dean of the faculty, Eduardo Mangarelli, noted that “it is essential to use technology to better provide a service or to better satisfy a customer.”
"We need to understand technological trends because today competition comes from unexpected places. Banks are a case in point."
"Technology is an enabler. Everyone in a leadership role needs to understand technology because it allows us to map reality and recognize technology as an enabler," he concluded.
