With the support of mentors who have already gone through the same experience you are going through, these are just a few of the things that the Universidad ORT Uruguay Mentoring Program allows you to do.
That's why we've put together this guide to tell you everything you need to know about this program and how it can help you during your college experience.
What is the Mentoring Program?
This is a comprehensive initiative designed to connect upperclassmen with incoming freshmen.

This program not only provides academic guidance through the—sometimes—turbulent waters of the start of the school year, but also fosters personal connections and builds a strong sense of community among all students.
Through this shared experience and mutual support, mentors play a key role in helping first-year students adjust and succeed.
Building meaningful connections
At the heart of the Mentoring Program is the idea of building meaningful connections among students. Mentors are upperclassmen who have gone through similar experiences and can understand the challenges faced by newcomers.

These mentors serve as trusted guides who answer questions, offer advice, and help new students navigate university life.
The program aims to raise the quality of interpersonal relationships on campus. The relationship between mentors and first-year students goes beyond academic matters and focuses on fostering a sense of belonging and community.
Benefits of the Mentoring Program
The Mentoring Program offers many benefits for students like you. Mentors act as guides and can help you:
- Providing you with key information about the university.
- Explaining how it works and how to get the most out of it.
- Answering your questions about the curriculum.
- Telling you about the available courses and extracurricular activities.
- We'll address any other questions you may have about the college.
In addition, these mentors can also help you and all new students build connections with other students, professors, and university staff.
Starting your college career is a big challenge, but you're not alone.
Mentors can also supplement the information provided by each school about how it operates. This means that mentors—young students just like you—offer a valuable perspective that goes beyond what’s found in printed materials or on the web.
By sharing their own experiences and advice, mentors help make the transition to college life much smoother and more successful.
Building a university community
The Mentoring Program is also about building a close-knit and supportive college community. In this regard, mentors help students connect with one another and participate in group activities.

The program aims to foster relationships between first-semester students who are new to the university and upperclassmen who have developed a sense of belonging and are actively involved.
This community-building effort strengthens the sense of belonging and contributes to a positive atmosphere on campus.
Active participation and commitment
Active participation and commitment are essential aspects of the Mentoring Program. Mentors make an annual commitment to provide support and guidance to first-year students.

This task requires not only knowledge and experience, but also empathy and a willingness to listen and understand the individual needs of each student.
Upperclassmen who wish to become mentors may apply during the annual call for applications. The student affairs office in each college coordinates and oversees the mentor selection and training process.
This process focuses on identifying students who can contribute to the quality of interpersonal relationships and enrich the internal environment of each school.
