“We are part of the official delegation for the Uruguayan national soccer team,” explains Attarian, “so we’ve been with Uruguay from the very beginning. We’re even staying at the same hotel and following the same itinerary.”
“It was a truly enriching experience, both professionally and personally.”
Regarding the work they do, he explains that “during the game, we conduct an analysis we call ‘Real Time,’ in which we gather statistical data and video footage, which we then provide to the coach at halftime.”
But the work doesn't end when the game is over; after each match, preparations for the next one begin, and the team once again asks for details about their opponents.
“For example, for this World Cup, we used our technology to analyze the national teams from Costa Rica, England, Italy, and Colombia.”
The services offered by AZsportech are tailored to the needs of its clients and are primarily designed to support quick and objective decision-making.
“Having access to timely and accurate information gives any club or coach that uses it a competitive edge, as it allows them to make quick decisions or even change their strategy.”
They have already worked with the Uruguayan national team on previous occasions. They were part of the squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the 2011 Copa América, and the 2013 Confederations Cup, so they are familiar with the team’s approach and know what information is important to the coaching staff.
“Coach Óscar W. Tabárez asks us for information on the tactical performance of opposing teams, based on video analysis and statistics.”
“He then organizes this information as he sees fit to present it to the players during one of the team meetings.”
His analyses attract more than a few players from the national team, who are also looking to learn about the opponent and draw their own conclusions. “Some of the players who ask us for information include Diego Godín, Luis Suárez, Diego Forlán, Fernando Muslera, and Diego Lugano.”
The company also works with the Honduran national team. “We’ve been working with various national teams for some time now, but we provided services to Honduras during the World Cup, which was a very valuable learning experience for us.”
For them, the World Cup was a job; they had to fulfill their duties and conduct the necessary analysis for each match.
“We inevitably have to treat it like a job, since there’s practically no room for error during matches and we have to stay completely focused on what we’re doing. That said, when the goals start coming, the fan in us comes out,” Attarian admits.
