Marcelo Guerra Hahn: From Microsoft to Global Business Analytics

August 15, 2025
With over 17 years of experience in software development, data analysis, and leading international teams, Marcelo Guerra Hahn is now a leading figure at the intersection of technology and business management.

*Marcelo Guerra Hahn*He currently lives in Seattle (United States). His career includes key positions at Microsoft and Tableau, where he worked in key areas such as C#, C++, and Azure.

These global experiences have given him a unique perspective on the business challenges faced by technology companies, from building multicultural teams to adapting to radical changes such as the shift to the cloud.

Advanced analytics and decision-making

For Guerra Hahn, advanced analytics is no longer the exclusive domain of large corporations; today, it is part of everyday business operations.

“The phrase ‘show me the data’ has become a common response when making decisions,” he says. And he gives a relatable example: Amazon and its ability to anticipate customer behavior, to the point of experimenting with deliveries that arrive even before an order has been placed.

The Future of the Data Scientist

He notes that the role of the data scientist is evolving in two directions.

On the one hand, toward training users who now have more accessible tools; on the other, toward solving more complex problems that require mastery of programming and advanced models.

It's not just about the numbers: the key is to explain the recommendations clearly to decision-makers.

Global Leadership and Education

His time at Microsoft taught him that leading teams spread across multiple countries and time zones is a challenge that goes far beyond technology: it involves strategy, culture, and communication.

He has also applied this approach to the academic world, where he has taught in the United States and China, convinced that formal education and hands-on learning must go hand in hand.

With that same vision in mind, he visited Uruguay as a visiting professor at the Graduate School of Business, where he taught the course “Data Visualization and Narrative,” which is part of the Specialization Diploma in Business Analytics and the Master’s in Digital Business —and is also offered as an elective in other graduate programs. His approach combines technical expertise with a business perspective, aimed at training professionals capable of transforming data into strategic decisions.
