On Thursday, July 28, 2022, the Faculty of Architecture at Universidad ORT Uruguay in Universidad ORT Uruguay hosted the awards ceremony for the “Design Your Room” contest, organized by the faculty with the support of Radio FM Like.
First prize went to Andrés Hernández of Liceo No. 1 de Minas for his project “Picó-Picó.” Second prize was awarded to Juan Luca Terra, a student at Colegio Seminario, for his project “Un Cuarto Cualquiera,” and third prize went to Valentina Sapia, a student at The British Schools , for her project “Dalí.”
The jury also awarded three honorable mentions to students Lucía Pérez, Fiorella Rossi, and Lucía Yabar Schiaffino.
The first-prize winner received a full scholarship to study Architecture or the Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design at Universidad ORT Uruguay, while the second- and third-place winners each received a 50% scholarship to pursue one of these programs.
The six selected candidates will receive a full scholarship to take the course Architectural Projects Using BIM Methodology.
The contest was open to 10th and 11th graders. Participants submitted their proposals by June 23, 2022. A total of 71 design projects for their own spaces were received. Throughout the process, they received guidance from upper-level students in the Interior Design program.
The jury selected the best entries, basing its final decision on proposals that stood out for their innovation, quality of the space, suitability for their intended use, and constructability. The jury consisted of:
- Architect María Elena Salinas. Member of the Executive Committee of the International Federation of Interior Designers (IFI), former president of the Association of Professional Interior Designers (Addip).
- Jorge Mígues, Architect. Professor of Drawing and Design in the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Interior Design at Universidad ORT Uruguay. Vice President of the Association of Professional Interior Designers (Addip).
- Agustín Menini, Industrial Designer. Industrial designer, member of Estudio Menini Nicola, and professor of design in the Interior Design program at Universidad ORT Uruguay.
