MeVuelo: Technology for Tourism

October 10, 2024
Based in Montevideo, MeVuelo has expanded into Colombia, Bolivia, and Paraguay following a grant from Cubo Itaú. Its CFO, Roberlandy Verdecia, discusses the challenges of expansion and the key role played by the company’s technological innovation.

With the goal of developing technology for the tourism industry, MeVuelo has been working on creating its own product, which covers the entire scope of operations for an online travel agency.

Over the past five years, they have carried out a steady expansion, establishing a presence in several markets across the continent: the Montevideo-based company now operates in Colombia, Bolivia, and Paraguay.

MeVuelo's entry into the Paraguayan market was made possible by an award it received from Cubo Itaú, making it the first Uruguayan company to be supported by Cubo Brasil.

MeVuelo's Chief Financial Officer is Roberlandy Verdecia, who earned his MBA from the Graduate School of Business. In his home country—Cuba—he completed his undergraduate studies, earning degrees in Industrial Chemistry and Communication.

In this interview, Verdecia discusses the challenges MeVuelo faced when expanding internationally and the role that developing its own technology played. He also explained what financial management entails for a company with a presence in multiple countries.
