Daniel Baldi’s book *Mi Mundial* was published in 2010. “When I read it, I felt like watching the movie,” said Gaviglio. “I bought the rights to get the project off the ground, because of everything that youth soccer generates, but also as a film producer and as a mom, because when I want to go to the movies with my kids, I find there’s very little variety for young people.”
Once he had acquired the rights, he had to find someone to turn that book into a screenplay. And that screenplay into a feature film. And he found Carlos Morelli.
“Adapting it was an interesting challenge for me,” he said. “It’s a voice that speaks and describes everything it sees and feels; the book has a rather old-fashioned feel to it, because that voice keeps narrating. But the book is very authentic. I noted that the author was a soccer player—you could tell. The biggest challenge was preserving that while breaking away from all the clichés of the voice-over.”
