April 30, 2003
Michael Culver, global program manager for the .NET Group at Microsoft Corporation, met with representatives from ORT and executives from Microsoft Uruguay at the School of Engineering.

Culver is Microsoft's global manager for the .NET program and the Visual Studio team.

His team supports independent software vendors (ISVs) and dot-com companies that are early adopters of the new .NET technology, such as ARTech, Autodesk, and Macromedia.

In the presence ofofficials from Universidad ORT Uruguay and Microsoft Uruguay executives Wilson Pais and Eduardo Mangarelli, an agreement was signed under which ORT joins the IT Academy and MSDNAA programs (Microsoft Corporation’s academic partnership with universities).

This agreement, which is highly beneficial for students in the School of Engineering, provides unlimited academic access to all Microsoft products in the areas of operating systems and application development environments, as well as to course support materials.

In this way, the School of Technology within the School of Engineering will expand the educational opportunities it already offers by incorporating the latest innovations in the field.

At a meeting attended by Manager Michael Culver; the rector Universidad ORT Uruguay, Dr. Jorge Grünberg; the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Mario Fernández, Ph.D.; the Dean of Academic Development, Julio Fernández, Ph.D.; and the Academic Secretary of the School of Technology, Víctor Paulós, future areas of exchange and research with the organization were explored.

In addition, particular attention was given to the possibility of Microsoft Corporation presenting technologies currently under development, with a view to implementing them in joint projects with students from the various programs within the School of Engineering.
