New Approaches to Mobile Learning

“Despite increased investment in technology in Latin America, little is still known about the integration of mobile devices into educational practices,” notes the article“Challenges in Designing New Pedagogies Based on Mobile Technologies.”

This study examines “access to, perceived usefulness of, and frequency of use of the laptops provided free of charge by Uruguay’s Plan Ceibal among student teachers in their pre-professional training.”

It was conducted by Dr. Eduardo Rodríguez Zidán, Dr. Carmen Yot, Dr. Claudia Cabrera Borges, Dr. Juan Pablo Zorrilla Salgador, and Prof. Javier Grilli, researchers with the Ubiquitous Learning project.

According to the authors, the findings reveal that mobile devices are underutilized in education because the pace of technological change at the national level “does not correspond” to changes in teacher training.

“Challenges in Designing New Pedagogies Based on Mobile Technologies” was published in Volume 49, Issue 172 of Cadernos de Pesquisa (corresponding to April–June 2019).
