On December 14, the School of Business and Social Sciences at Universidad ORT Uruguay Nobel Prize-winning economist Finn Kydland, who was invited by The Research Institute for Development, Growth and Economics (RIDGE). The Norwegian economist delivered a lecture titled “Economic Policy in the Growth of Nations.”
Dr. Kydland’s lecture was part of the “Leading Economists to Speak at the University” series, during which, from December 12 to 14, 2018, top-tier economists delivered academic presentations and participated in debates on public policy.
Other participants included Elhanan Helpman, a professor and researcher at Harvard University and one of the world’s 30 most-cited economists; Andrew Atkeson, a professor of economics and finance at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA); and other prominent professionals.
Some of the topics they discussed include: trade integration, the political economy of trade, business dynamics, and the growth and development of countries.
Finn E. Kydland was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2004, along with Edward C. Prescott. He is currently a professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Elhanan Helpman is currently the Galen L. Stone Professor of International Trade at Harvard University. He is also Professor Emeritus at the Eitan Berglas School of Economics at Tel Aviv University.
Andrew Atkeson is the Stanley M. Zimmerman Professor of Economics and Finance at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he has been teaching since 2000. Previously, he held positions at the University of Chicago, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Minnesota, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis.
