Statement to the Universidad ORT Uruguay Community

The spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) calls for preventive measures and social responsibility within the communities where we live.

Universidad ORT Uruguay closely monitoring the spread of COVID-19 since the first cases emerged in Asia and has been taking preventive and contingency measures in response. 

  • Taking care of one another means taking preventive measures that affect our daily university life, such as not sharing mate, maintaining a safe distance when greeting one another, and washing our hands more frequently, among other things. We urge our community to adopt these and other preventive measures.

  • If you find yourself in any of the situations listed below, please follow the instructions provided here:

    1. Have you traveled to or transited through an airport in any of the following regions in the past 14 days?: Asia, Europe, or Iran.

If so:

  • Do not attend college until 14 days have passed since your return to Uruguay.
  • Be on the lookout for symptoms such as fever, a dry cough, or shortness of breath. If you have any of these symptoms, consult your doctor before coming to campus.
  • Notify the program coordinator or the relevant department at the university.     

       2. Have you been in contact with anyone who is infected or showing symptoms? 

If so:

  • Request a house call.
  • Do not attend college until you receive medical clearance.
  • Notify the program coordinator or the relevant department at the university.

       3. Do you have any of these symptoms?: Dry cough, fever, or shortness of breath.

If so:

  • Request a house call.
  • Do not attend college until you receive medical clearance.
  • Notify the program coordinator or the relevant department at the university.

Students in this situation will be contacted by the program coordinator for their respective degree program to receive instructions on how to continue their courses.

These measures are subject to change depending on new developments regarding the spread of COVID-19 and directives from national and international authorities.  

For the past two weeks, Universidad ORT Uruguay implementing a health protocol for exchange students and faculty members from abroad, which includes monitoring and medical checkups. Among other preventive measures, courses taught by faculty members from abroad have been rescheduled.

Universidad ORT Uruguay made provisions to offer online services should it become necessary in the event of a national or international emergency.
