In July 2025, the project “Strengthening Teachers’ Digital Skills in Secondary Education for Artificial Intelligence-Mediated Assessment” was selected for funding by the Education Sector Fund under the “Digital Inclusion” category, supported by the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) and the Ceibal Foundation.

This research aims to strengthen the digital skills of secondary school teachers at the María Espínola schools, particularly with regard to technology- and artificial intelligence-supported assessment.

A total of 18 proposals were submitted for the 2024 edition of the Education Sector Fund. ORT’s project was one of three selected for funding.

"Strengthening Teachers' Digital Skills" is a project of the Institute of Education at Universidad ORT Uruguay, comprising:

  • Dr. Mariela Questa-Torterolo, associate academic coordinator of the Master’s Program in Educational Management and the Master’s Program in Trainer Development, who will serve as the scientific director.
  • Dr. Claudia Cabrera Borges, a professor and advisor at the Institute of Education, who will serve as co-director of the project.
  • Dr. Andrea Tejera Techera, academic coordinator of the Master’s Program in Educational Management, the Master’s Program in Trainer Development, and the Center for Continuing Education in Higher Education, who will participate as a researcher.
  • Lucía Saldombide, M.A., a tutor at the Institute of Education, who will also serve as a researcher.
  • Dr. Anna Espasa, director of the Master’s Program in Educational Psychology at the Open University of Catalonia (Spain), who will join the project as a visiting professor.

Upon completion of the research, the team hopes to contribute to the Uruguayan education system by providing teacher training in artificial intelligence, as well as by developing replicable tools and ethical protocols for inclusive digital assessment.
