In 2002 and 2003, the Economic Research Department of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) coordinated and funded studies on this topic conducted by various research centers in Latin America.
The purpose of this seminar is to share these findings and their applications with the non-academic community .
Studies conducted for Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay will be presented.
The studies are:
- Gabriel Sánchez from Argentina will present his paper " Labor Market Dynamics, Growth, and Productivity";
- Naercio Menezes-Filho from Brazil will present " The Cost of Layoffs in Brazil: Is Human Capital Firm-Specific?";
- Raphael Bergoeing of Brazil will present his paper "Idiosyncratic Productivity Shocks and Inter-Plant Heterogeneity";
- Carlos Casacuberta will present the work of the Uruguayan team—which also includes Gabriela Fachola and Dr. Néstor Gandelman—titled *The Impact of Trade Liberalization on Employment, Capital, and Productivity: Evidence from the Uruguayan Manufacturing Industry*.
