"I enrolled at Universidad ORT Uruguay the recommendation of friends, and I didn't choose the program for any particular reason—I didn't even know what a programmer did. Although I was interested in computer science in general, I didn't have much knowledge or experience in the field."
This is how Alexis Espósito, 26, recalls his early days at the School of Engineering. He graduated with a degree in Software Engineering in 2010 and a degree in Information Technology in 2011. Since the year he graduated (2011), Alexis has been running Innvenio, his own technology company.
It was 2009 when he took his first steps in the information technology field. He worked for nine months in the development department of a national transportation company, then spent a year as a developer at a multinational corporation. Finally, he decided to strike out on his own, and together with a friend and classmate, he launched his own technology startup.
“Not all degree programs give you the opportunity to start working before you graduate, let alone launch your own tech company the same year you graduate—that’s something that sets our industry and this degree program apart.” In January 2011, Alexis co-founded Innvenio, where he currently serves as Chief Technology Officer. The company focuses on innovation in the field of digital entertainment. They develop advergames, mobile apps, websites, and social media applications for clients such as República Afap, Mercedes-Benz, Colgate, the Ministry of Housing, La Cigale, and Parmalat, among others.
Alexis has fond memories of his time as a student at ORT. “It was a wonderful experience that fostered significant personal and professional growth. I’d highlight the human and professional qualities of everyone there—from classmates and teachers to coordinators—who were always ready to help you in the best way possible.” Throughout his studies, he greatly appreciated the breadth and depth of the knowledge he gained. “Having teachers with extensive professional experience is excellent for any student, as that expertise comes through in every class and allows you to absorb knowledge quickly.” One of the skills he acquired at ORT that proved very useful for his professional performance was the ability to learn continuously. “From a professional standpoint, ORT gives you the foundation to grow as far as you want to go—there are no ceilings; you set your own limits, and they can be as high or as low as you want.”
Looking ahead, Alexis aims to grow his company to further establish itself in the local market and begin exploring opportunities abroad. He’s also always thinking of new ideas and ventures to pursue.
