ORT to Compete in the 2023 Taylor Cup

On November 3, 4, and 5, the sports teams from Universidad ORT Uruguay more than 1,800 students from 120 teams representing over 22 universities to celebrate the 16th edition of the Taylor Cup.

ORT to Compete in the 2023 Taylor Cup

This exciting sporting event has been bringing the student community together for a friendly, high-level competition since 2007.

The university delegation consisted of students from the various campuses, accompanied by Camilo Rodríguez, coordinator of social and athletic activities; Ignacio D’Angelo, assistant coach for the program; and the coaches of the various sports:

  • Handball: Federico Bidegain and Mariana Fleitas.
  • Men's and women's basketball: Alfredo Russo.
  • Men's and women's volleyball: Pablo Gomensoro.
  • Men's and women's soccer: Martín Sánchez.
  • Hockey: Laura Pastorino.

ORT was represented in eight sports by more than 90 students, and the teams excelled in several of the events. 

The women's handball team was crowned champion, while the women's hockey team took third place.

Meanwhile, the women’s and men’s basketball teams finished third in their respective subgroups. In addition, the women’s volleyball team was awarded the Fair Play Award for their outstanding sportsmanship.

In the final results, broken down by university, ORT finished in 6th place out of the 22 institutions that participated in this event, with 150 points earned across the various disciplines.

The Taylor Cup not only showcases students' athletic talent but also highlights the importance of opportunities for campus integration. Beyond the results, this competition fosters friendship and respect among students from different universities, demonstrating that sports can bring people together.
