This startup is led by Marcelo Lanfranconi, a systems engineer from Universidad ORT Uruguay, and Leonardo Vernazza, a computer engineer from the University of the Republic.
SmartWay is a company specializing in remote electronic vehicle diagnostics. It consists of a scanner and software that reports on the condition of cars, allowing the owner to monitor potential faults and vehicle performance in real time. It was founded by Nicolás Cremona, Gonzalo Díaz, and José García, graduates in Electronic Engineering.
In the 2012 edition, readers voted WoOw into first place—Uruguay’s first group-buying website, which offers significant discounts. The company, supported in its early stages by the CIE, was founded by Leonardo Silveira, a graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Management and Administration; Martín Giura, a student in the same program; and Martín Larre, a graduate of the Marketing Analyst program.
In 2011, the companies Femway, Pedidos Ya, and Kizanaro—also supported by the CIE—took first, second, and third place, respectively.
Femway offers a feminine hygiene product that allows women to urinate standing up easily and safely. The company was founded by María Elena De Paula, a graduate of the Bachelor’s in Graphic Design program at Universidad ORT Uruguay, and Mariné Villalba, a graduate of the Bachelor’s in Business Administration program at the Catholic University of Uruguay.
Pedidos Ya! is an online service that allows users to quickly find restaurants offering home delivery and place orders via the Internet. It was founded by Álvaro García, a graduate of the Bachelor’s in Systems program; Ariel Burschtin, a graduate of the Bachelor’s in Systems Engineering program; and Rubén Sosenke, a graduate of the Bachelor’s in Information Technology Analyst program.
Kizanaro, a company led by Krikor Attarian and Steffano Zammarelli, graduates of the Bachelor’s in Systems program, provides tactical analysis services for soccer teams and IT tools that improve the daily work of head coaches.
