Teaching Excellence at the School of Communication

Professor Daniel Anselmi, a member of the faculty in the Sound Department, received the Award for Teaching Excellence from the School of Communication.

“The students’ comments speak to his passion,” noted the dean, Eduardo Hipogrosso: “We need more people like him in the program; he doesn’t just impart knowledge, but also motivation and self-confidence.”

Upon receiving his award, Anselmi remarked that he had been thinking about his years in teaching—nearly 25, he said. “I wasn’t always at ORT, which helped me see the stark contrast with what I experienced here (as a student),” he acknowledged.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude, not only for the award but also for letting me be myself.”

Anselmi is a record producer, electronic musician, consultant, and beta tester for sound synthesis hardware and modular systems. He has received several Graffiti Awards: in 2002 for producing the album *Pepsi Bandplugged 2002* with the band Psimio; in 2004 for *Filosofías del insomnio* by La Teja Pride; in 2006 for producing the albums Perfecto by Dani Umpi and Tiempos modernos by La Teja Pride, in 2008 for the production of Efecto Dominó, and in 2009 for Nómades, both by La Teja Pride.

Teaching Excellence at the School of Design

Vicente Lamónaca, a member of the faculty in the Graphic Design department, received the Award for Teaching Excellence at the School of Design.

“Among the pillars of our profession, we must always put students first—they are what motivate us,” said Lamónaca. In fact, his students described him in student surveys as “brilliant, humble, and approachable.”

“Then,” he continued, “the institution, and then the discipline itself; the ORT faculty provides support and works together to ensure the best possible performance,” he noted.

Lamónaca holds a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from Universidad ORT Uruguay, where he has been a faculty member at the School of Design since 2000. He teaches courses in Art and Aesthetics, Typography, and Editorial Design. His professional work focuses on the fields of typography and publishing, primarily in typeface design, periodicals, and exhibition catalogs. He is a managing partner at TipoType, Uruguay’s first type foundry. Since 2014, he has been a member of the Communications team at the National Directorate of Culture within the Uruguayan Ministry of Education and Culture.

He is the designer of the Económica typeface, the first typeface designed in Uruguay to be marketed internationally. Together with Fernando Díaz and José de los Santos, he founded the Sociedad Tipográfica de Montevideo (STM). He was a member of this collective from the day it was founded until March 15, 2015.

He edited the book *Latin American Typography: A Current and Future Overview*, which brings together the work of more than 42 Latin American authors to provide an overview of the state of the discipline in the region. In 2016 , he published *Sucedió: Ten Years of Uruguayan Digital Typography*, a book that explores, among other topics, the cultural value of having one’s own typefaces.
