Privacy and Social Media: A Teaching Guide for Educators

September 14, 2020
How can we address the issue of online privacy with students? How can we explain to a child or preteen how to manage and protect their personal information?

As part of the project Smart Data, the research team published a teaching guide for teachers, both in Spanish as in English.

The curriculum materials—designed for children, preteens, educators, and families—are intended to help develop social media skills.

In this guide, teachers will find a variety of exercises and activities designed to promote learning about online privacy. It is also intended to help students navigate the internet safely.

Smart Data is a research project that studies Uruguayan and Australian children and preteens with the aim of helping them develop an understanding of personal data so they can learn to better manage and protect their online privacy.

The initiative was launched by the Institute of Education at the Universidad ORT Uruguay, in partnership with Deakin University(Australia), and funded by the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) and the Ceibal Foundation.
