"Robotics in Secondary Education" Project

April 2, 2009
The School of Engineering is organizing the “Robotics Applied to Secondary Education” (RAES) project with support from the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII), Microsoft Uruguay, and the CTC Institute of Technology. All secondary schools in the country whose graduates are eligible to pursue university studies in engineering are invited to participate in this activity. The goal is to promote new technologies among young people through group work on the LEGO Mindstorms NXT robotics development platform. Activities will take place in Montevideo, Maldonado, and Paysandú.

In Montevideo, 15 centers will participate in the training and instruction phases, while at the Maldonado and Paysandú sites, there will be 10 centers per site during the first two phases.

This activity stems from the project "Experiencing Science and Technology—Robotics at the High School Level" led by André Fonseca, Ph.D., Professor of Analog Electronics and Automatic Control at the School of Engineering, presented in collaboration with the CTC Technological Institute and Microsoft Uruguay in response to the National Agency for Research and Innovation’s call for proposals titled “Support for Programs to Promote Science, Technology, and Innovation,” which received funding approval in October 2008.
