Biotechnology research project to be funded by Spain's Ministry of Science and Innovation

July 1, 2021
The project “Enzyme Activation through Nanoparticle-Induced Local Heating for Biomedical Applications (ACTENZYMES),” in which Dr. Lorena Betancor, Professor of Protein Technology, is participating as part of the research team, has been selected for funding by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.

The project was submitted under the Ministry’s 2020 Call for R&D&I Projects, and its principal investigators are Dr. Valeria Grazú, professor of Nanobiotechnology in the Biotechnology Engineering program at Universidad ORT Uruguay Dr. Jesús Martínez de la Fuente of the Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragon (CSIC-UniZar).

The project strengthens the ties between the Protein Technology research group and the Spanish group, with which it has been collaborating for several years on the development of nanodevices for enzyme-mediated cancer treatment.

The activities will take place over a four-year period, beginning in September 2021.
