A biotechnology faculty project on antibiotic residues in milk will be funded by ANII

Two biotechnology engineering students will write their thesis as part of the project.

The project "Antibiotic Residues in Milk: Technological Impact on Dairy Production and Solutions for Mitigation" by Dr. Lorena Betancor, a research professor of Biotechnology in the School of Engineering, and MSc. Daniela Escobar, a senior researcher at Latitud Fundación LATU (Uruguayan Technological Laboratory), was approved for funding in March 2018 by the Innovagro Sectoral Fund: Safety and Risk Assessment in Foods of Animal and Plant Origin of the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII). The project, which will last 36 months, will begin in May 2018.

Also participating will be Erienne Jackson, a research assistant in the department’s Biotechnology program; a student in the PEDECIBA Master’s in Chemistry program who will join the project; and two Biotechnology Engineering students, María Cecilia Bertoncello and Tanya Cohen, who will complete their thesis as part of this project.
