Student projects honored by the National Academy of Engineering

On Monday, December 2, the National Academy of Engineering held its end-of-year ceremony, during which the awards for the Undergraduate and Graduate Engineering Project Competition were presented.

The following projects were recognized in this context:

The doctoral dissertation by Dr. Franz Mayr, associate academic coordinator for Artificial Intelligence and Big Data, titled *Active Learning of Regular Languages as an Approach to Neural Language Model Verification*, received an award in the Doctoral Dissertation category in the field of Computer Science. It was part of the PEDECIBA program, and Dr. Sergio Yovine served as the academic advisor in his capacity as a member of the SNI.

Two Systems Engineering projects received awards in the Systems category:

Wisello: A conversational advisory system based on generative artificial intelligence for e-commerce platforms, developed by students Andrés Juan, Federico Iglesias, Marcelo Pérez, and Mateo Sciarra, under the guidance of Ignacio Valle, MBA.

Award for the Final Project in Systems Engineering

Analysis, Evaluation, and Improvement of Active Regular Inference Algorithms for Neural Sequence Acceptors, conducted by Systems Engineering students Alejo Garat, Martín Iturbide, and Juan Pedro da Silva. The research project was supervised by Drs. Sergio Yovine and Franz Mayr. The students are instructors in the Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Department.

Recognition from the National Academy of Systems Engineering

For its part, the Biotechnology Engineering project: Use of Microalgae in the Sustainable Management of Dairy Farm Effluentsreceived an honorable mention in the Biotechnology category. The project was carried out by Matías Regina and Clara Segovia, under the guidance of Dr. Mary Lopretti and Dr. Mariana Umpiérrez.
