Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur 2020 / 5781

The holidays of Rosh Hashanah (literally, “Head of the Year”) and Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement), together with the ten days between them, make up what is known as the Yamim Noraim (High Holy Days).

These are days of repentance and self-reflection, of taking stock of our deeds and actions, and of special prayer and sensitivity.

They begin on the first day of the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar (Tishrei), which Jewish tradition considers to be the month of the creation of the universe. This year, the start of the Jewish New Year 5781 will be celebrated beginning on the evening of September 18, 2020, when the first star appears in the sky, and will last for 48 hours.

For this reason, Universidad ORT Uruguay at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18, and will reopen as usual on Monday, September 21.

In addition, the university will be closed on Monday, September 28, in observance of Yom Kippur, and will reopen as usual on Tuesday, September 29.
