Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur 2021 / 5782

The holidays of Rosh Hashanah (literally, “Head of the Year”) and Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement), together with the ten days between them, make up what is known as the Yamim Noraim (High Holy Days).

These are days of repentance and self-reflection, of taking stock of our deeds and actions, and of offering special prayers.

It begins on the first day of the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar (Tishrei), which Jewish tradition considers to be the month of the creation of the universe. This year, the start of the Jewish New Year 5782 will be celebrated beginning on the evening of September 6, 2021, when the first star appears in the sky, and will last for 48 hours.

For this reason, Universidad ORT Uruguay at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, September 6, and will reopen as usual on Thursday, September 9.

In addition, the university will close at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15, and will remain closed on Thursday, September 16, in observance of Yom Kippur; it will reopen as usual on Friday, September 17.
