May 23, 2013
On May 17, 2013, the Faculty of Engineering hosted “Scratch Day 2013,” an event featuring presentations of projects related to Scratch created by high school teachers.

On Friday, May 17, "Scratch Day 2013 at Universidad ORT Uruguay" was held, organized by the School of Engineering and the ORT Institute of Education.

Several presentations of faculty research were held:

“Save the Pile” by Prof. Mario Fontana and Prof. Sergio Palay. This is an educational project using Scratch for second-year high school students. It is based on the television show “Save the Million,” in which a pair of contestants tries to save money after answering seven questions. The initial idea came from Prof. Sergio Palay, who presented the project in a very basic form to his students, who then continued to develop the game.

For her part, Prof. Lara Rodríguez gave a presentation "Video Editor in Scratch" in which she proposed working with Scratch to program scenes and edit sounds for the creation of a short animated film.

The video “Science in Multimedia”, a scientific and technological project that combines mathematical, biological, and computer science knowledge. The material for this presentation was prepared by Prof. Alicia Ronzoni.

Dr. Inés Kereki gave the presentation “Scratch 2.0” during which she discussed the main features of the new version of the tool.

Two workshops were also held during the event: “Enchanting”, led by André Fonseca, and “Scratch 2.0”, led by Dr. Inés Kereki and Marcelo Rubino, Engineer.
