Moderated by journalist Daniel Castro, this debate between the two masterminds, organized by the School of Graduate Studies and professional development, took place on February 7 in the auditorium of the Faculty of Communication and Design at Universidad ORT Uruguay.
New technologies, creativity, and innovation
Artificial intelligence is currently revolutionizing natural intelligence and the news, with technologies like ChatGPT—which is capable of writing essays and engaging in natural conversations, among various other “creative” abilities.

“Machines learn faster, without a doubt, but we should learn better. These kinds of changes have altered the shelf life of knowledge. This is the era of lifelong learning,” said Sabrina Bianchi, academic secretary of the School of Graduate Studies and professional development the School of Communication and Design.
Based on these themes, the panel—comprising advertising creative Dominique Sarries, who is dedicated to fostering creativity in companies, organizations, education, and people’s lives; and Eduardo Mangarelli, dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Universidad ORT Uruguay and a leading figure in cutting-edge technology, innovation, and education, discussed the skills and talents needed for the future of work.

Are we numbers or letters? Creativity or management?Art or science? What if you could be all of these things? How far can we go? What will the future of work hold for those who limit themselves so much?
In light of all these questions, Sarries and Mangarelli—better than ChatGPT—explain the true value of combining talents to capitalize on future opportunities, and how professionals will enhance their skills in the age of machines by focusing on everything that machines will be unable to do.
“I strongly believe in people’s creativity and in the creative side that each of us possesses,” Sarries said, referring to the value of the unique creative potential that each person brings to work teams.
Speaking about creative processes and innovation in organizations, Mangarelli emphasized the need to foster creativity through change and originality, as well as by challenging and breaking away from established paradigms.

Among other topics discussed during the debate, the experts addressed the need to strike a balance between academic learning and soft skills in light of the future of work, as well as the tools that will be necessary, leadership and organizational maturity, how to respond to the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies such as ChatGPT and their creative outputs, the need for teamwork, and the ability to adapt to change.
