Set to graduate with a degree in Fashion Design, Vivian Sulimovich entered the “Proyectarse 16” competition organized by the Uruguayan Chamber of Design (CDU). Szünet was selected alongside Mutma—footwear—and Srta. Peel—lingerie—“both of which are well-established brands that have been on the market for several years.”
Szünet's latest collection was showcased on the Moweek runway on Sunday, April 24.
Minimalism, linearity, and classic compositions
"The designer drew heavily on the vision of Hungarian photographer Akos Major, 'who, through his photography, captivates us with his watery landscapes of utter solitude, captured on Lake Balaton in Hungary,'" Sulimovich said.
“This is where Szünet—which means ‘pause’ in Hungarian—comes from: a collection that invites us to reflect inwardly, a moment when everything seems frozen in time. Winter landscapes—metallic and cold—along with minimalism, linearity, and classical compositions convey a sense of purity and simplicity.”
The Szünet collection is divided into two lines.
The first collection features evening wear with a rock-and-roll vibe, incorporating rivets, eyelets, laser-cut details, and blued metal fasteners. “Head-to-toe leather looks and rubberized prints add a touch of drama,” said the designer.
The second line is designed for parties or cocktail events, offering a high degree of sophistication without being over the top. “Lightweight fabrics like silk, crepe, and velvet suggest a more relaxed style; custom prints in High Gloss ink add texture to the fabrics; silver-colored metal rings and silk cords combine to create nautical-inspired looks.”
“Both lines complement each other thanks to their simple, geometric shapes and their palette of cool tones,” Sulimovich noted. “Comfortable designs made from lightweight fabrics paired with leather and fur that exude personality.”
Szünet is designed for women between the ages of 25 and 45. “Modern, active, and elegant women who are looking for comfortable yet chic designs, who prioritize quality in the craftsmanship of the garments and, above all, in the raw materials. I value raw materials above all else—fabrics of excellent quality. I try to ensure that this is reflected in each of my garments.” In that sense, the designer explained that she adopted a minimalist approach because she appreciates fashion “but without excess, with simple cuts.”
