“Inequality, its potential causes, and its impact are today a growing concern for education policymakers and have placed education with a focus on social justice at the forefront of the international debate,” says Dr. Denise Vaillant, academic secretary of the Institute of Education at Universidad ORT Uruguay.

However, in the chapter“Teacher Education for Social Justice in Latin America, the author notes that although the issue is increasingly discussed, “much remains to be done” in practice.

This chapter examines teacher education from the perspective of social justice. In particular, Vaillant discusses how to train prospective and current teachers to promote an education focused on social justice in Latin American classrooms.

“Teacher Training for Social Justice in Latin America” is part of the book Public Policies for Social Equity, edited in 2019 by Pablo Rivera-Vargas, Judith Muñoz-Saavedra, Rommy Morales-Olivares, and Stefanie Butendieck-Hijerra.
