Teacher Training in an Interconnected World

Dr. Denise Vaillant's publication aims to highlight the need to transform initial teacher education in Latin America in order to adapt to an increasingly interconnected world.

“Teacher training in Latin America requires significant changes to meet the current and future needs of children and young people,” says Dr. Denise Vaillant.

In the article “Teacher Education in an Interconnected World,” the dean of the Institute of Education at Universidad ORT Uruguay the importance of “identifying the factors that could drive policies enabling the development of teacher education programs that prepare teachers for the world of tomorrow.”

The current challenge lies in moving beyond the traditional training model, which, while highly successful in its day, is now obsolete.

Throughout the article, in addition to reviewing current trends, Vaillant identifies potential avenues for improving and transforming teacher training programs. Finally, he presents an inspiring case study: the initiative developed at the Catholic University of Argentina.

“Teacher Education in an Interconnected World” appears in issue 44 of the Revista Española de Educación Comparada, covering January–June 2024.
